Discord

Schedule Discord announcements. Community updates belong on the same calendar.

If you run a community, the Discord announcement is usually the post that gets forgotten — it lives in a different tool from the rest of your publishing, so it becomes a thing someone remembers to do. Putting it on the same calendar as everything else fixes that.

The forgotten channel

Launch day has a pattern. The X post is written, the LinkedIn version is written, both are scheduled. The Discord announcement is "I will just post that when it goes live" — and then it goes out forty minutes later, after someone in the community has already asked about it.

The fix is not discipline. It is putting the Discord message in the same queue as the rest, scheduled for the same minute.

Formatting is per-channel

Discord renders its own formatting syntax. Other platforms do not — they will show the raw characters.

So a Discord message that shares a body with an X post either loses its formatting or leaks syntax somewhere. Use a per-channel override for Discord when you want formatting; the shared body stays clean for everywhere else. See multi-platform publishing.

If you post to more than one Discord channel regularly, save them as a channel group so selecting them is one click instead of several.

Room to be specific

Discord allows a reasonable amount of text and several media items — the table above has the exact numbers, read from the rules the publisher enforces.

Community audiences tolerate and reward detail in a way public feeds do not. The Discord version of an announcement is usually the long one, with the actual changelog rather than the headline.

Questions

Frequently asked questions Everything the first evaluation usually needs.

What can I schedule to Discord?

Messages to a channel — announcements, release notes, community updates — with media attached. The table above shows the character and media allowances.

Why schedule Discord at all?

Because a launch is rarely one post. If the announcement goes out on X and LinkedIn at a set time, the Discord version should go at the same time, and doing that by hand is how it ends up an hour late.

Does it support Markdown formatting?

Discord renders its own formatting in messages. Write it as you would in the client, and note that the same text sent to other platforms will show the raw characters — use a per-channel override.

Does Discord support a first comment?

No. That is an Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Threads feature.

Can I schedule to several Discord channels?

Each connected channel is its own destination, and a channel group lets you select a set of them in one click rather than picking them individually every time.
