Where the first comment earns its keep
500 characters is not much, and spending 40 of them on a URL hurts twice: it costs you a fifth of the post, and several platforms reduce the reach of posts with outbound links in them.
Threads supports a first comment, so the link goes there. Postonus queues it with the post, which removes the part of that trick nobody enjoys — being awake at the scheduled minute to type it.
Hashtags are the other candidate. A caption ending in a tag block reads like marketing; the same tags one comment down do the same job without cluttering what people read.
Not just a copy of your Instagram caption
The temptation with Threads is to mirror Instagram, since the accounts are linked anyway. It reads badly, and the reason is structural rather than stylistic: an Instagram caption is written on the assumption that an image is doing most of the work. A Threads post is mostly text.
So a caption that made sense under a photo often reads like a fragment on Threads. Auto-repurposing reshapes the post for the destination instead of copying it across.
