Tumblr gives you an enormous character budget and expects a different register from the feed platforms — closer to a blog than a caption. It is a reasonable home for the full version of something you compressed for everywhere else.

Most of your publishing is compression. You have a thought, and you cut it down to 280 characters, or 300 graphemes, or a caption that fits under an image.
Tumblr's allowance is at the other end — the table above has the figure. That makes it one of the few places where the uncut version of an idea is the appropriate format, alongside Reddit and a LinkedIn long post.
If you are already writing long and cutting down for distribution, the long draft has somewhere to go.
Register matters more than length
Tumblr's culture is not the culture of LinkedIn. Copy that reads as professional and considered on one platform reads as an intruder on the other, and audiences there are unusually quick to notice content that was written for somewhere else.
So this is a channel where a per-channel override or an auto-repurpose pass earns its keep — not because of a character limit, but because of tone.

A reasonable place to recycle
Long-form posts age well. Something you wrote a year ago explaining how you work is still true, and almost nobody saw it.
Tagging those posts and attaching a recycle rule with a generous cooldown puts them back in front of people on a cadence, without you having to remember what is in the archive.
